PRESBYTERY GATHERING

The Presbytery of Cincinnati gathered on November 12, 2024, on Zoom.  87 voting members were present, along with 19 non-voting attenders (corresponding members, staff, and visitors), representing 39 of our 60 congregations.  The minutes of the meeting are available upon request.  Here are some highlights:

The Presbytery reported a number of ACTIONS through its committees and commissions, and took additional actions at this gathering:

INSTALLED Rev, Deb Uchtman and Elder Kathy Martin as Moderator and Vice Moderator and honored the Rev. Ebenezer Yebuah as he retires from service as Chair of Council.

COM approved and brought to Presbytery for Approval

  • Rev. Dawn Sarchet during Advent  and to serve as Stated Supply pastor at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church
  • Elder Lee Sanders to serve during Advent and as Commissioned Pastor (beginning in January) at Aurora Presbyterian Church and appointed her moderator of the session.
  • Approved other contracts for CP Dori Martz, Rev. David Sugarbaker, and Rev. Lucinda Isaacs
  • Approved Westwood First and Crestview’s Mission Study and and updated MDP for Northwest.
  • Brought for approval exemptions to the “ordinarily not eligible” language in the contracts for Rev. Rich Jones (Westwood) and Rev. Lucinda Isaacs (Mt. Auburn).

Council brought to Presbytery for Approval and information

  • Nominations of Rev. Hannah Quick, Rev. Kevin Waters, and CP Demetrius Springer to theCommittee on Representation.
  • Recommended to send the updated Commissioned Pastor policy to the Presbytery and the Transitional Pastor policy to the Presbytery for approval.
  • Approved dismissal of the Administrative Installation Commissions for Rev. DavidAnnett, Rev. Hannah Quick, Rev. Sarah Sparks-Franklin, and Rev. Andrew Byrd.
  • Approved dismissal of the Administrative Commission for the dissolution of Wilson Memorial Presbyterian Church.

COR brought to Presbytery for Approval

  • Slates of nominations for the following committees:
    • Trustees
    • Commission on Ministry
    • Committee on Preparation for Ministry
    • Permanent Judicial Commission
    • Presbytery Council (At Large)
    • Synod Commissioner

The Presbytery heard INFORMATION from the following:

  • Rev. Matt Aragon-Bruce, who brought greetings and information about scholarships granted to Presbytery of Cincinnati students from Indian Hill and Knox as well as information about the Cultivating the Gift of Preaching initiative and the opportunities and scholarships that go along with it.
  • Commissioners to the 226th General Assembly
    • Rev. Nicholas Yoda, who introduced the theme of this year’s GA, Live Into Hope, spoke about the election of the first woman of color to the office of Stated Clerk of the General Assembly Rev. Jihyun Oh, as well as the election of Co-Moderators Rev. CeCe Armstrong and Rev. Tony Larson
    • Elder Georgana Taggart, who served on the Environmental Justice Committee
    • Rev. Jim Brazell, who served on the International Relationships Committee
    • Elder Steven Bruening, who was a first time elder commissioner and appreciate the training and the ability of himself and others to speak out in passionate ways.
